Fun Family Climb on Mt. Cutler Trail
Climbed with the kids 11, 7, and 5. Ninety minutes roundtrip including stopping for lunch and snack. Perfect for a Cub Scout den hike. Perfect for kids of any age - if they're too old to be carried in a carrier, they should be able to walk it. Perfect for out-of-town business travelers wanting to get out and experience Colorado some. Less than 20 minutes from downtown. Great Colorado Springs weekend vacation side trip. Very minimal fitness requirement. Anyhow, kids had fun.

East Face
A discouraging forecast scrubbed the original plan to climb Pikes with the whole family, so I took advantage of the a.m. sunshine to climb the rocky east face again, plus a little running in the canyon.

Mt. Cutler Trail
I climbed Mount Cutler with my Cub Scout Den. Quite windy. Nice hike, though. The boys thoroughly enjoyed it.

before the snow
Caught the last sunshine before some snow showers rolled into the region. Climb number five up the east face. Made the top of the rocks in 35 minutes. Windy--which was new--but still nice.

Short and sweet! It only took me 2 hours to drive to the trailhead, climb to the spur, spend 30 minutes or so on the top, walk down and drive home. Awesome views of Rosa, Stove, Cheyenne, Seven Falls, the shrine, the Broadmoor, CS, GOG, etc... Just about anyone could climb this!
Route Climbed: East Face Date Climbed: 6 November, 2005
With just a little time available, I couldn't resist another climb. I varied my route just a little, staying even closer to the ridge between the east and north faces. It's more exposed, but actually easier than staying to the left. This, plus familiarity, gave me my best ascent time to date: just 37 minutes. Got one nice photo of the young crescent moon over the spur.

Tagged this summit again on the way to the top of Muscoco Mtn. to the west. A glorious, sunny fall day with hardly a cloud in the sky. The steep rock gets easier each time.

Warm, clear weather holding, so I decided to tackle the East Face again. I followed basically the same route as last time, although I think I took one or two slightly different turns near the top. Went with my little alter-ego climbing buddy, and took a couple of pictures of him at the top, but his picture of me cut off my head. Oh, well. Still thrilling, with some real exposure near the top of the rocks.
Route Climbed: From North Cheyenne Mountain Park Date Climbed: Various
My wife Julie and I have hiked this foothill west of Colorado Springs many times for the great views of the city including the famous Broadmoor Hotel. With binoculars we can make out our neighborhood in the Briargate area of the city. Great after work hike!
