Wow!ehat a delicious break from the dense tree and dark Appalachian forest! We hung out here for a while, but knew we couldn't stay forever / on to Walnut Mtn Shelter! Amazing views. Enjoyed the kite fliers, surprised the locals didn't quite know what to do with stinky backpackers on "their" mountain.

Cool stop in the middle of nowhere
Easy to remember because it was the morning of my 31st birthday. It was clear and fairly warm but the black flies at the top were highly annoying. Awesome views.

Great Views
Outstanding views of the northern Smokies and the Blacks - a clear day with a big snow patch below the top.

Max Patch in August via the AT
What a great place to watch the sunset! Max Patch is also a spectacular place to see the stars on a clear Carolina night. If you visit between late July & mid August you will be able to dine on wild blueberries & juicy blackberries...yummy!

:(
I was looking forward to the views but it was just unpleasant wind, drizzle, chilly temps, and no views. So I didn't linger...
Been up there a bunch of times with the family. My kids had a ball building a snowman on the summit last December. A great peak but it can get a bit busy in the summer.
This is a gorgeous place. Outstanding views; the Blacks, Roan, eastern Smokies, Tennessee Bluff, Sandymush. To think that in days of old, the summit of Max Patch was used as a landing strip for planes!
