Route Climbed: Flattop Mountain Trail Date Climbed: August 6, 2004
Great moderate day hike! Start early as everyone who started later than we did got hailed on big time at 2pm. We barely made it onto the shuttle in time! The last 400 foot scramble to the summit is great training for Longs Peak, and the view from the top is wonderful. The gentle western slopes of the Continental Divide look surreal from this vantage point.
Route Climbed: standard Date Climbed: 19 january 2004
I did this mountain along with Flattop and ptarmigan point. This was a fairly easy accent except for the relentless winds that I experienced at the top (35 mph). It was kind of cool to see the clouds wizzing by while I sat back for a break at the summit. I couldnt really find a actual trail and there was frost on all the rocks, making them quite slippery. Other than that it was a enjoyable climb.
Route Climbed: Via Flattop Mountain Trail Date Climbed: 2001, 2002
A classic in 'The Big Park' as my friend Steve calls Rocky Mountain National Park. Outstanding views of Longs Peak and good access to Otis Peak just to the south.
Route Climbed: Tyndall Glacier & variations, Flattop Mtn trail Date Climbed: A dozen times or so, 1990-present, all seasons
A great peak any time of year. Can be turned into a longer circular trip by ascending from the north and descending via Andrews Glacier (bring an axe if late in the season). My wife and I once arrived on the summit at 6:00 PM on a July 21 (her birthday). We had left Bear Lake at 1:00 PM with no destination in mind. One of those crystal clear days when there's no place better than Colorado!
I hiked Hallet Peak (Flattop, Tindall) early in the morning from Bear Lake. It was a sunny day. I truly enjoyed myself for it was an easy and very pleasant outing with great views of a marvellous scenery. Got to watch the elk for a while too!
Route Climbed: Standard Route up/Tyndall Gorge Decent Date Climbed: August 10, 2002
We hike over Flattop mountain and then onto Hallett Peak. Unfortunately this was the day I decided to forget my hiking boots at home and was wearing Teva's in the car to the trailhead. I decided to do the hike anyway. The ascent was great - very comfortable. The decent was a little trickier down the Tyndall Gorge with all of the rocks, lack of trail and then the "wall". My feet were a little sore after that hike - made it a memorable hike. Awesome views of Longs Peak!
Route Climbed: Via Flattop Date Climbed: June 23, 2001
This was my first ever summit. I love this mountain and do it a few times a year. Great summit, and easy access to other mountains. A little crowded, but still a great spot.
Route Climbed: Northcutt-Carter, Standard Walk-up Date Climbed: 1996, 1998
Fun climbing on the Northcutt-Carter (5.7, III -- one of the 50 CCs of NA). Climbed with a guy who talked like he had been doing multi-pitch trad for years. I figured the easy N-C route would be a good warmup for harder stuff, but at the top of Pitch 1, he started to untie his figure eight knot! I asked, "What are you doing?" He just stared at me with a blank expression. We continued up the climb and eventually topped out, but it was an interesting day...

Route Climbed: Standard Date Climbed: July 29, 2002I used Hallett as a warm-up and to acclimatize for Longs two days later. Besides that Hallett is a fun and worthwhile hike in and of itself.
