Fauna of New Zealand
New Zealand is a great place to watch birds, beasts and everything in between; its geographical isolation and low population density making it a haven for all kinds of interesting wildlife. It’s geographical isolation also means that it is home to some of the world's most unusual and highly specialised species of bird and insect, many of which cannot be found anyweher else. Unfortunately, the arrival of man has had a significant impact on native biodiversity and the introduction of predatory mammals in particular, has been particularly serious for many species of bird. Nevertheless, there remains to be much to see and celebrate here, and many, many opportunities for those with a lot of patience and good camera at hand.
