Beautiful blue day a few days after spring began with perfect snow conditions and no winds to speak of.
Two hours and twenty minutes up the AT from the Notch TH. There were more people on the trail without microspikes than with, which I considered somewhat Darwinian but at least four teenage ladies who lacked them had the sense to turn around. The nastiest part was just before the junction where the short summit side trail splits off from the AT. There were a lot of views and you don't have to wait for the top to see them although the fire tower on the summit rises over the trees completely.

A long time ago
On a thru hike of the AT from Katahdin to PA.
Date is approximate.
A beautiful area indeed.
Morning hike from Speck Pond campsite. We considered visiting Mahoosuc Notch in the afternoon, but lightning surrounded us on Mahoosuc Arm and we retreated to camp. Naturally sunshine returned as soon as we reached the pond.
What an amazing misty day. I had a great view from the ridge to the south. The summit was completely clouded in. It was fantastic though and peaceful without seeing anyone for the entire day. Loved all the fall colors, can't wait to go back and see the view from the top.

Pretty straight forward. Enjoyed the early summer temps (mid 80s). Wish I remembered my sunscreen.
Quite a spectacular hike. Love the Maine mountains.

Old Speck
Climbed via the Old Speck Trail from Grafton Notch. A great introductory hike to everything Maine has to offer. A steep and steady ascent from Grafton Notch led to great views from the summit tower. The only downside was the swarms of black flies swarming around the summit.

Good place to get lost, apparently
I climbed the firetower, even though I wasn't supposed to. It felt good.

Old Speck Trail (Standard Route)
Despite the dreary weather, I honestly enjoyed this mountain. The waterfalls and slides along the trail made it worth it. Several points where I am sure that would be a great view. But, during our trip, all they did was show us what complete nothingness looked like! It was a good time. I expect that I will hike this one again once my NE4000 are done.
