Nice full moon and sunset over Denver.
Daniela and I got back to Green Mountain. Being just 10 minutes away from home it's the best place for us to go for a walk in the afternoon hours.
We had the best sunsets and views of Denver from up there.

Nice views and sunset.
Nice views of Denver and surroundings. Daniela and I hiked for a while up on the very well maintained trails. We had an awesome sunset. We're so happy we found this place just 10 minutes away from home. We'll be back soon.
I've done this several times, primarily as part of the "triathalon" with the hogback and Mt. Morrison. It's a good spot to get views of metro Denver.

Frustrated on summiting Colorado Mines and missing out of Flora, AGAIN, due to weather, AGAIN, I headed up Green Mountain to burn off some excess energy. I was not disappointed! This is a beautiful and singular mountain and reminded me quite a bit of the south Bay Area. Nice views, good hike.

February 22 2017
Originally, I was supposed to make this hike in the evening with a friend, but last minute plans changed and I had a business dinner to go to that night, so we changed it to afternoon. At the trailhead, he called to say that he couldn't make it, so I hurried and did it myself.
From the Rooney Road Trailhead, I hiked up the Green Mountain Trail, to the summit of Green Mountain and made the loop with the Rooney Valley Trail. I didn't bring a map, so the descent took a little longer than I thought. I didn't have time to linger because I had to get back to work.
January 26 2010
I was in Denver for a couple days, so I had time to do a night hike while in the area. SP member Steven Cross joined me for a climb of Green Mountain. We left one car at the west end of the Green Mountain Trail and one car at a small trailhead off Alameda Avenue.
After figuring out which trailhead we were meeting at, we started climbing the mountain just after dark, but the moon was bright enough to hike without a flashlight or headlamp. We climbed to the summit of Green Mountain and saw all the city lights of Denver. After a break at the summit (where Steve took some night photos) we headed SE along the ridge over the top of another summit and then followed the trail down to the Florida Trailhead on the east side of Green Mountain. Since the car was parked on Alameda Avenue, we hiked the Lonesome Trail through the lower slopes of the mountain and found the vehicle. It was a great hike on a clear night. It was cool (in the 20’s), but not bad for January.
November 18 2008
I was stuck in Denver on business for a few days. After classes, I decided to climb Green Mountain since it was the closest peak to downtown Denver and since it was an unusually warm day for November. I arrived at the Roony Road Trailhead about an hour before sunset and hurried to the highest point to watch the sunset. After walking highpoints in both directions, I completed a loop hike and returned by headlamp well after dark.
Hiked and biked on numerous occasions. Not much of a peak by CO standards, but not bad for a winter/early season mountain bike when everything else is still snow covered.

Green Mountain & Hayden Trails
I took the Green Mountain trail from Alameda to the summit, and then took the Green Mtn and Hayden trails back to the trailhead. It was a fairly quick afternoon hike. The weather was outstanding for the first of March: clear and in the lower 70s. It was pretty breezy, but not cold enough for it to be unpleasant. As a result, there were a lot of hikers and bikers up there. It's now March 2, and the weather has gone almost completely to hell: cold and blowing snow. Oh well.

Nice January hike
Started at the Rooney road trailhead and headed up the Green Mountain Trail. Returned via an unmarked trail that headed west, then south from the summit. Beautiful sunny, warm January day. Nice views and deer to be seen. 4/50
